About Overnight.guide
Hello, my name is Charly and I am the author of Overnight.guide.
Overnight.guide is an independent online portal that brings together information on night trains and night buses worldwide. Its aim is to provide travellers and those interested in mobility with clear, well-founded and inspiring guidance for night-time travel.
This is how Overnight.guide came about:
2005
After graduating from high school, I travel across Europe with an Interrail ticket. I often take the night train – like here in Marseille-St. Charles. The next morning, I'm in Amsterdam. I think it's great: I save on accommodation costs and cover a long distance at the same time!
2007
My part-time jobs at the video store, car upholstery shop and community service enable me to take a trip to Canada. To be able to afford more once I'm there (baseball, whale watching, rafting), I travel many distances overnight – replacing expensive overnight stays with Greyhound buses.
2012
As a student, my travel budget can still cope well if I spend the night on a bus or train instead of in a hotel. Like here: on the night train from Surat Thani to Bangkok (on the way north to Chiang Mai).
2013
Also very popular in Asia: travelling overnight in sleeper buses. On this trip in Vietnam, I decide to establish a similar service in Europe. Back in Germany, however, I start other projects. And eventually join the automotive industry as an engineer.
2022
I have now been working for several years. The opportunity arises to move back to Hamburg. From now on, I will be doing my job from my home office. With occasional trips to my employer in southern Germany. It quickly becomes clear: because I am an adventurer, I will be travelling at night again.

I can't really find what I'm looking for when searching for a night travel portal with up-to-date route networks. That's why I'm starting to summarise my research on Overnight.guide.

The homepage goes online: Since the beginning of 2023 you can find on www.overnight.guide Night train & night bus route networks, popular travel routes and helpful tips for travelling at night.
